Who needs a niddy noddy? It seems like one of those exotic tools that someone with three spinning wheels and an alpaca in the backyard might need, right?
But I’m here to tell you that this is the handiest tool for yarn crafters of all types!
Do you have small amounts of yarn leftovers after a big project? Well, with a small niddy noddy, you can wind them up into mini skeins, which are cute, compact and easy to store. I think they belong in one of those large glass candy jars on the shelf in your craft room.
Do you ever think you’d like to overdye that dull yellow yarn you got in the bargain bin and has sat in your stash forever? (If it’s wool, you could even use koolaid) Well then, you’ll need to wind that yarn into a nice big loose loop on your handy little niddy noddy so it can take the dye!
What about the yarn you spun from fiber onto your drop spindle? Well, if you had a niddy noddy, you could get it off that spindle to make room for you to spin some more before you forget your technique.
Luckily, this indispensible tool is simple to make and store, so there’s no reason you shouldn’t easily put one together for your yarn tool arsenal. We have a tutorial here:
and I even made a little video to help you with the winding part:
