I was recently contacted by a fellow knitter on Ravelry. side note: If you aren’t a Ravelry member yet, do join! The resources and knitting fellowship is amazing! My new friend Silke resides in Germany and wrote to complement our Sweet Somethings pattern. She enjoyed our little knitted heart so much that she modified the original pattern to be larger and called them Sister Hearts. What’s really interesting is the way she shared her new pattern with me – on Stitch Maps! This is a great way to share patterns in all languages using symbols. If you scroll to the bottom, you can enlarge the written instructions.
I love Silke’s Sister Hearts and have made dozens to share with my friends and family. They’re about 7″ across when knit with worsted weight yarn and size US 8 needles.
Here’s the written pattern:

And the knitting love goes on and on!
Thank you, Julie, for your kind words. Ravelry indeed is amazing and stitch maps are very, very useful. And I am still in love with the hearts in all sizes (26, 30 and 34 sts.). Last month during our holidays a little girl (7 years old) asked me if I could knit a heart. It was a quick project and real fun to gift a knitted heart to her. I will continue knitting hearts from time to time. They are useful, they are perfect for demonstrating some basic knitting skills and they are a nice symbol for love and friendship. I like your colorful hearts and I am really surprised how huge they turned out. 7 inches? Cool.
Yes! That was the largest size. A perfect washcloth! You did a great job on the pattern and I’m so excited about Stitch Maps! It’s a wonderful resource!
AWESOME! I LOVE this VERY easy pattern! Thanks sooo much for giving it to us! I made Several of these for Mother’s Day presents! They are small enough for your face! EVERYONE LOVED these and the fact that it’s all knitted gives you a Spa effect on your face!!
Omg yes!
I just knitted the little heart today, and was hoping you had a larger version so I can give them away together 🙂 they’re both so adorable, and I love how they are both simple and complex to knit!(i hate purling)
Thanks!
Yay! Thanks to our friend, Silke for creating the larger version! 🙂
These are going to make really great presents.
I will be using variegated red green and white cotton for the holidays and red, white and possibly gold for Valentine’s Day. Then various other colors for other special days.
Do any of you have any color pallet ideas.
I see in the pictures that there are different sizes. My question is what is the decrease and where in the row to you leave out stitches for the smaller potholders?
Hi Ginn, the smaller sized heart cloths are our Sweet Something pattern. Just follow the link within the post to view it. Happy Knitting!
I love this heart pattern!!
In August Silke said she like “all sizes (26, 30, 34 sts.)”
Is the 30 sts pattern written up some where?
Thanks in advance!
Row 23 states to K0 ….. what is this please?
It’s a non stitch Sharon – just skip it. It comes up that way translated from the stitch map. Since this is Silke’s modification, I didn’t want to change it. 😊
Love these, Julie!! Thanks for sharing!!!
You are so welcome my friend!
