With their chunky cables laid against moss stitch, these simple cable knit boot cuffs are not only stylish, they’re so easy to knit that they’ll fly off your needles! If you haven’t yet knit in the round with how to magic loop or how to double pointed needles or attempted cables – take the plunge to create these trendy accessories for the girls in your life.
materials:
Size 3.75mm (US5) knitting needles – long cable for magic loop or double points (or size to acheive gauge)
110 to 160 yards DK or Worsted Weight Yarn – for the boot cuffs shown, I used Craftsy’s new Cloudborn Superwash Merino DK Yarn in Stormy Skies and Charcoal Heather. I love this new yarn! It’s soft and scrumptious, but still hardy enough to maintain a good bounce factor for stretchy projects like these.

I’ve really enjoyed your website. It’s lovely and just gives off a sweet meditative air. Thank you!
Hi! I’m new to knitting and i find I’m unsure how to read this pattern! I have gotten ahead of myself by ordering 3 balls of the Cloudborn yarn – really very nice feel to this yarn – at any rate my cast on is 60 – after probably 8 various tries I have a decent looking bottom ribbing. My questions are:
1. The increase round – I knit 9 stitches and on stitch 10 do I add on or on stitch 9 – then it totals 66?
2. The center rounds1 directions – not sure how to read this? Is it P2, K10, P3, K1, P1, K1 if so this only = 54 stitiches
3. The center round 2 directions – P2, K10, P2, K1, P1 X4 = 64 stitches
I must be doing something wrong – can you help me understand this better – hope so – do love these boot cuffs & am trying to get a few done for Xmas
Hi Barbara, since your cast on is 60, you will always look to the second number within the brackets for the # of stitches for that size.
1. Yes, k9 then Kfb in next stitch.
2. No. The pattern reads p2,k10,p3,k1,p1,k1,p1,k1,p1,k1
3. No. It is: p2, k10, p2, k1,p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1
Hope that helps – the brackets around the last two stitches shows that the number of repeats goes for both stitches within the brackets.
I have also tried several times to make this pattern work after the inc end of kfb on 10th st,. Round one still does not come out. I have too many sets remaining. I’m reading pattern as p2 k10,p3,k1 then knifing p1,k1 three times, repeating round to end. What am I not doing correctly? Love pattern just cannot make it come out. Appreciate any help .
Hi Kathy! I’m not sure what the problem might be? If you cast on 60, then increased one stitch in every 10th stitch you’d have 66 stitches at the end of that round. If you knit the pattern as you described: p2, k10, p3, k1 then (p1,k1) 3 times that comes out to 22 stitches. If you do that for three repeats it would equal your 66 stitches and would come out perfectly. Are you sure you have the correct number of stitches to begin with? If so, try using a stitch marker between each repeat so you can go back and count the stitches between the markers to be sure you did each of the stitches you meant to. See if that helps.
I am stuck on the cable cross round. I do the cast on 60 so to me it is reading p2,cc5,p3,k1,p1,k1,p1,k1,p1,k1 and repeat around.
My question is..how many times do you repeat this? I tried repeating it 3 times but the cable look didn’t turn out..it was to close and twisted.
Hi Kristen! You only do the cable cross round for one full round – it should repeat 3 times I believe? It will look close and twisted at first. You won’t really see the full effect of the cable until you’re well past that round. Keep going! ๐
Just seeing if you got my previous post or if I need to try something else?
Thanks
Love these boot cuffs! Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome, Sharon!
These are so cute. Is the Stormy Skies colorway a bluish gray, or more of a true gray? It’s so hard to tell onscreen, and I’m considering using it for a scarf for my husband.
definately a blue/gray! A lovely color!
Thanks! I think I’ll go for it instead of a neutral like beige or brown.
Have just startrd these boot cuffs. Question- on the rounds, when you say, Rounds 1-2, knit pattern rnd 1 twice, do you mean knit pattern rnd twice for rnd 1 and twice for rnd 2-producing 4 rnds.. Also made 4 pairs of your Easy Knit Boot Cuffs for Christmas gifts. They turned out great.
Hi Jeanette, For rounds 1-2, I just mean to knit pattern round 1 THIS: Pattern Rnd 1:(P2, k[8,10,12]14, p3, k1, [p1, k1]3 times) around, for two rounds. So glad to hear that you enjoyed the Easy Knit Boot Cuff pattern! It’s a favorite around here. ๐
I love this pattern. I’m a self taught knitter and reading a pattern like this was good and interesting practice for me!! Thanks for providing help, I’ve corrected my mistakes do to that!!’
I’m having a problem with the pattern after the ribbing. My cast on is 72. After Knitting my 14 in round 1 for the 3rd time, I only have 4 stitches left which isn’t enough for the rest of the pattern. What am I doing wrong?
Hi Brenda!
Did you do the increase round after the ribbing?
Hi! Would it be possible to translate this pattern in order to knit it flat? Thank you for your great pattern and for your help! ๐
Hi Lola! I’ll see if I can carve out some time for that. Have you thought of learning to knit in the round? I know it’s fiddly at first, but it gets easier with practice and it opens up a whole new knitting world to you! ๐
Hi, I’m new to cabling and having an issue with the Cable Cross. I can’t find how to do this stitch anywhere! If I’m doing a CC6, do I move 6 to the cable needle and move to back or front?
Hi Andreanna! The instructions for the pattern are up at the top of the pattern under โstitchesโ. Instructions: cc[4,5,6]7= put [4,5,6]7 stitches on a cable needle and hold to front of work, knit [4,5,6]7 stitches , then knit stitches from cable needle. Hope that helps! ๐
