I love how fast crochet can be – especially with worsted weight yarn. This groovy crochet dishcloth pattern sports a fun wavy pattern that looks difficult, but isn’t at all!
Materials:
Worsted Weight Cotton in at least two colors: outline color and inner groove color(s)
Crochet Hook, 5.0 mm (size H)
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
Elongated stitch: for next stitch, insert hook into skipped stitch 2 rows below and pull up loop even with top of work, then pull yarn through both loops on hook.
Instructions:
row 1: using outline color, chain 30 stitches. sc in 2nd ch from hook and each stitch across. (29 sc)
when picking up new color, don’t cut outline color. Carry outline yarn up side of work.
row 2: Pick up new color and ch 1. *Starting in first stitch and working across: hdc twice, sc, sl st, (ch 1, Place marker, skip marked Stitch, sl st, sc, hdc twice, dc, hdc twice, sc, sl st) repeat between () once. Ch 1, place marker, skip marked stitch, sl st, sc, hdc twice. Ch 1, turn.
row 3: repeat row 2 starting at * with same color, (no need to place additional markers, but do continue to skip stitch above marked stitch). turn.
row 4: pick up outline color and ch 1. Starting in first stitch and working across: sc 4 times, (perform elongated stitch in marked stitch 2 rows below, remove marker, skipping stitch behind elongated stitch, sc 9 times) repeat once, perform elongated stitch, sc 4 times.turn. (29 stitches)
row 5: ch 1, sc across with outline color. turn.
(first groove row completed)
row 6: pick up desired color for next groove and ch 1. *Starting in first stitch and working across: (sl st, sc, hdc twice, dc, hdc twice, sc, sl st, ch 1) Place marker, skip marked stitch, repeat stitches between ( ), place marker, skip marked stitch, repeat stitches between ( ). turn
row 7: repeat row 6 starting at * with same color. (no need to place additional markers, but do continue to skip stitch above marked stitch) turn
row 8: pick up outline yarn, ch 1. starting at first stitch and working across: (sc 9 times, perform elongated stitch in marked stitch 2 rows below, remove marker. Skipping stitch behind elongated stitch,) Repeat between () once more, sc 9 times, turn.
row 9: ch 1, sc across with outline color. turn.
Repeat rows 2-9 twice more, alternating colors for each row of grooves as desired.
Repeat rows 2-4 for final groove. Don’t turn on final row. Sc all around dishcloth, ending at beginning corner. Add sc loop if desired. Fasten off and weave in end.
