These sweethearts met 56 years ago. James W. was an army private on leave and Barbara Jean, a high school student. They met at her hometown skating rink and were a couple from that day on.
Barbara Jean is my Mom and after many years of marriage, she became Dad’s caretaker for the last few years of his life until it was over in 2010. They had a good life together. It’s been a few years since Mom has received a valentine’s gift from Dad, but I know she still honors him as her sweetheart. I knit her a gift this year as a tribute to the two of them- Chivalry Mitts.
Loved how this pattern allowed me to add Mom’s and Dad’s initials to the thumbs.
Cold hands? Warm hearts.
How Beautiful of you do make them for your mom.
Lovely photo,
Thank you for sharing it.
Blessings,Renee
How sweet! I love the picture of your folks ♥
Oh my… Cute pattern + beautiful story + a personal touch = perfection. Truly touch my heart, happy Valentine’s Day!
What a lovely way to honour your parents on this special day.
Thank you, Julie for the tribute to us, your parents! Loving those
special Mitts and how warm they are! 🙂 I was also thinking of my parents on this day and ordered a special Angel holding onto two turtle doves. It is the story of Two Lovers and is in the “Blue Willow” pattern, which my Mom had a small collection of. Love you Bunches!!
How clever! I’m sure your mom loved them! Great personal gift!
A wonderful story, and a great gift!!!!
Thanks everyone! I always say that my Mom made me “crafty” because she raved so much about every homemade gift I brought home from school, that I’m STILL bringing her my arts and crafts for her approval. 😀
You’re so welcome, Mom. Thanks for being a wonderful Mom!
WOW! Beautiful mitts, you do such nice work and I know your mom just loved them -so special. A wonderful love story.-nanad
What a tender Story.
Is it possible to get the pattern of your fingerless heart mitts.
Hi Jill! Those are the Chivalry Mitts from Interweave Press. I believe they were from the 2011 holiday edition of the magazine.
Tender and inspiring story. Thanks
