Oh how we love and appreciate our girls – our Rav friends, our blog buddies, the pals in our Knit circles! In the interest of crafting for those who show enthusiastic appreciation for our projects all through the year, here’s a trio of free patterns for another holiday project idea to make for your biggest fans:
Gift Idea: Yarn Cake Cozies
A free pattern on Ravelry, the Cabled Yarn Cake Cozy by Hariotmagee is not only cute, and cozy – it’s uber useful and made up with less than 50 grams/ 100 yards – a great project for leftovers and a great way to gift a pretty little cake of yarn – wrapped in cables!
Then there’s the Ball Sack by xenniferx, (yep – free on Ravelry). Not only can you snicker about the name together, this clever little item will be admired by your crafty friends for it’s usefulness in keeping your yarn cakes tidy as they shrink during knitting. Cakes can roll around in your project bags without tangles. Since they require the smallest amount of fingering scraps, you can make them by the pair! Sorry – couldn’t resist
And last, but certainly not least, is the Holiday Gift Bag by Jentide, also free! With it’s delicate textured and lace pattern with drawstring top, it’s not only protective and the perfect size for yarn cakes, but also a beautifully festive gift bag on its own. Knit it up with 2.5 oz, 1 ball of worsted weight cotton.
Are we feeling the winter holiday-like excitement yet? I know I would certainly love to find any of these tucked under my tree!
The cozies are so practical. I never even thought about knitting one. Thanks for the tip and links!
You’re so welcome, Magnolia! There’s just so many wonderful projects, so little time….:sigh:
Yarn cake cozies are an awesome gift idea!!!
