Preserving childhood – with glitter!

It’s sort of a tradition around here, that after every Thanksgiving, I gather ideas for crafting Christmas ornaments with my girls. This year I decided the girls were old enough to graduate to crafting with glass ornaments. We only broke two – so far! We made glittered glass hearts and balls and paper mache’ ornaments with a little glitter sprinkled on for good measure. There could never be too much glitter – my daughters and I definitely agree on the blingy part. It’s our favorite!

Crafting Paper Mache Christmas OrnamentsWith Mod Podge and pages from a very old beloved Charlotte’s Web book that was beyond salvation, but I hated to let go of, we made some special balls that I’ll treasure just a little more since they’re covered in a favorite story. We tore the pages into little strips, and paper mache’d these glass balls, ironing out the wrinkles with the bottom of the sponge brush. Even little hands had a great time with this project. Five year old Ivy loved crafting with her older sisters and was able to get the hang of it with very little help. While it was still wet we added a little bit of extra fine glitter to each ornament and a hand stamped tag to the ribbon hanger which makes for some very cute Charlotte Web ornaments to hang on our tree this year!

Just like Charlotte, we pronounced them “Some Ornaments” and perfectly “Terrific”

Salutations, Crafty Friends! Oh, and Happy Holidays too.

I love this! I have never made a homemade ornament, and now I want to try. Glitter makes everything better :)

I highly recommend these, Amy. They are easy and not as messy as other crafts we’ve done in the past. They are something you can set aside and take a break from then go right back to it. They were a lot of fun! I loved the idea of making them out of a favorite children’s book but they’d also be great out of an old music book with notes or vintage books.
