Carli and I are hosting a swap designed to help you make a new Crafty Friend.
This will be a Secret Swap, so you’ll need to “stalk” your partner, find out as much as you can about him/her, (a questionnaire will be provided), either through his/her blog, or through Ravelry membership in order to create a special crafty type package designed just for them.
Since it’s Valentine’s Day next month, include a handmade gift for your new Crafty Friend as well. You’ll want to create a thoughtful, creative package – something you’d like to receive yourself, so please be sure before signing up that you’ll have sufficient time to devote to this swap.
You must either be an active Ravelry member or have an active blog (2 posts within the last month), in order to sign up for this swap.
You may sign up in our new Simply Notable Ravelry Group by joining the group, then following the directions in the Make a New Crafty Friend Swap thread, OR if you’re not a Ravelry member, you can also sign up by commenting on this blog post, including both your blog address and email address. You’ll then receive two questionnaires by email. One to help us successfully pair you with a partner and one to post to your blog to help your partner learn about you.
This is an International Swap. (You may opt for US only)
Package should have craft supplies that apply to your partners’ particular craft, and at least one handmade item for your new Crafty Friend. Your total package is required to have a retail value of 35.00 to 40.00 US dollars, (not including shipping). Craft supplies should be in new condition, with associated tags intact. Other gifts, edible treats and/ or handmades may be included as desired to complete your package.
Sign ups will close US MST at midnight, on Jan 5th.
Package to be sent no later than Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2012
(delivery confirmation required in the U.S.)
You must communicate with your secret partner at least once weekly during the swap. You’ll want to create an anonymous email address to be able to communicate. (test it by sending yourself a message before sending one to them to be sure you don’t reveal yourself). Moderators will be checking for communication. Failure to communicate may result in your partner being reassigned.
The swap requirements are not completed until a photograph of your received package contents and a thank you is posted, either to the appropriate Ravelry thread, or to your blog.
We really hope you will, above all, have fun and make a new treasured friend! ♥

Ravelry doesn’t allow ghost accounts so I’m not sure how to do the weekly communication – any suggestions?
Hi Amy,
When I partner you up, you’ll receive your new Crafty Friend’s email address. You’ll make yourself an anonymous email account to send from. You know, something like YourSecretPal@hotmail or live or yahoo or whatever service you like to send your communications from so you don’t reveal your identity. You’ll just need to remember to check that account to keep up communication at least once weekly during the swap period.
Gotcha… all set.
sooo excited! I was JUsT thinking it had been too long since I had done a big swap
Me too, Annie!
I’ve never done a big swap at all, so I am TOTALLY excited. AND thanks to this post, I found out about Ravelry (how did I not hear of this before) and found a knitting group that meets up in my area weekly. I am so so so very excited to get out of the house, sans kids for a change and meet some people that have a common interest.
Oh wow! I’m so glad I got you involved in Ravelry! I feel like the world’s best enabler!
You’re sure to have lots of fun there. And the knitting group sounds great! Yay for knitting groups!
