Here’s my two littlest Grandchildren, photographed so beautifully by their Auntie Jennifer of The Shoot Shoppe.
Baby brother is scheduled to make an appearance in December, (though I can’t imagine how Mom will hold out that long!). Grandma is knitting furiously just in case the littlest surprises us.
This little one will be born in cold country, so he’s going to need a sweater or two. I’ve had a few on my radar for awhile now and this time I finally had the pleasure of making a longtime favorite: f. pea’s Mossy Jacket
I made mine in the 6 month size with Family Roots Fibers Willow Merino in the First Beach colorway, and Rowan Cashsoft dk in the color Donkey. This is one of my favorite baby sweaters I’ve ever made. The loose gauge makes the sweater very stretchy, which is sure going to come in handy when you have to guide tiny little hands through little sleeves.
I love the neck design, which buttons low, without being tight or binding in the neck area. I made my sleeves extra long to grow with the baby for a few months. There’s no harm in cuffing them up that first month or so. In fact, the reverse stockinette is kind of interesting looking in the varigated colors.
Making baby things makes me think about what a joy it is to be a Grandma. I’m not responsible for anything except fun – and that I can handle.

What a gorgeous cardigan, and I love those colors together.
Thank you Sue! It was one of those happy coincidences that I actually had a perfect coordinating color in my stash. So rarely happens…
That is a precious sweater. I miss making baby knits but trust me, I’m in no hurry to make any either… lol.
That picture is priceless and the sweater is adorable! Love the colours.
Saw this in person and it is as adorable as it looks and so soft, too.
Looks like a breeze to make. Wonderful baby gift!!
Wonderful! I can’t believe that she has a few more months to go! she looks ready to pop now! I’ve knit the mossy pea sweater before too! it is so cute and easy!
It’s a great little pattern! I’ll definately knit it again…maybe in girly colors next time?
