I have big plans! A relaxing day of knitting with a movie or two. No errands, no work, no demands. And, it just so happens that there’s something shaking on one of my favorite blogs: Luvinthemommyhood is sponsoring a well timed knit along, for a cowl of your choice – just in time for autumn.
Even in our warm weather areas, Carli and I appreciate a stylish cowl to spice up our winter wardrobes and chase the chill away. We’re weather wimps – I ‘ll admit. Visiting my family here in Arizona, I’m rather surprised at how mild the fall is this year, so I’m thinking about a lightweight squishy little cowl I can wear loose in warmer weather, then bunch up around my neck with a fastener when it cools off. There are loads of cowls I’d like to make, such as the deliciously drapey A Thousand Splendid Suns or the cabley gorgeousness of Shaw Hill, but I’ve complicated the entire project by insisting upon making this project a stashbuster. Although most of my stash is at home in Greece, I did tuck two little orphan skeins of super soft Ella Rae Extrafine Heathers in a lovely grey into my suitcase - just a scant 170 yards. sigh
So, after much pattern browsing and numbers crunching – here’s my plan. I’m making a modified version of the Stockholm Scarf by casting on less stitches (100), and using fatter needles to loosen it up. (US 11) So far, so good…

If you’d like to knit along, you can join in anytime before November 9th. Oh! And best of all – crochet is more than welcome too.
